I just arrived at Aprovecho in Cottage Grove, OR for a 7-week course called the Sustainable Shelter Series. For those of you not familiar with Aprovecho, it’s an awesome place where you can learn all sorts of sustainable living skills, including natural building, permaculture, and small-scale appropriate technologies. The next series of posts will highlight various techniques and materials in natural building, as our class constructs a super cool garden shed. (See building plans here.)
We are going to be building the shed in the yard of someone who lives in town. Here are a couple structures that were built on the Aprovecho campus during previous Shelter Series courses:
