Learning about fire

In these two videos, Max Edelson gives a demo on how fire behaves and how it is affected by various conditions. In the first video, he builds a model of a Rumford fireplace and in the second, he demonstrates the design of the combustion chamber and heat riser in a rocket mass heater.

This week we learned a lot about home heating and cooking stoves from Max. You can check out some of the beautiful work he and his wife Eva do at www.firespeaking.com. In addition to many other projects, they recently built the wood-fired oven at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in CA.
